So announced this week the PGA Tour will be allowing Distance Finders for events. Specifically, the PGA Championship, KPMG Women's PGA Championship and KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Why in holy hell is this happening?? According to the PGA it's to speed up play. What is this baseball with a pitch clock ? Or the NBA with a shot clock ? The beauty of Golf is you make decisions based on experience and a book, yes does decisions take time. However, that's what makes golf pure. You have a pencil and a book, no outside technology.
I think introducing Distance Finders cheapens the PGA Tour. Wasn't the PGA just talking about rolling back certain technologies such as ball production. I'm sure everyone saw Rory's rant on that and I agree with him. Technology in the aspect of club production, ball production, training and recovery improvements will happen with time. Keep Distance Finders off Tour !!! I think some of the lure for me is the interaction between Caddy and Golfer. Reading the yardage book and talking about shot shape, then seeing the plan pan out or fail miserably. There are players that are on both sides of the conversation, with pro's and con's for the Distance Finders. For me I am against it. Would love to hear everyone's opinion on this PGA Ruling.
