I think Happy Gilmore was predicting the future of golf. All these heavy hitters driving the ball 320+. They come in all shapes and sizes, got Bryson a bigger more powerful guy with a lot of torque, got Rory who is smooth and hits bombs, got Cameron Champ who drops absolute nukes !!! Champ is the forgotten one most of the time. However, Bryson made it known he is the big dog in town after that drive over the water this past weekend. He went for it and was rewarded. It was amazing to watch as a fan. Bryson excitement and will to get that ball over the pond was somewhat inspirational. You could see in his body language and expressions how rewarding that accomplishment was. If he came up short it would have adjusted the entire outcome of the tournament and he would be criticized for the decisions. The risk was worth the reward ! The only thing with Bryson is accuracy. He swings for the fences and it doesn’t always pan out. Saw it at the Masters. Needs to find that balance between distance and accuracy, once he does it’s going to be tough to beat him.
So Bryson is Happy from the Tee Box and Shooter on the greens. His ability to judge speed, distance, breaks and touch is something else. He seems very mathematical and methodical when it comes to putting. He focuses on that green book, like a 10 year old that just found his first Playboy. Nothing is rushed, takes his time, ways his options, reads the breaks, double checks his book and goes through the entire sequence again. It's a privilege to watch !!!
The only concern I see with Bryson is the wear and tear on his body from the amount of torque he uses in every swing. You saw the amount of damage on Tiger's body, Brooks is going through some issues currently and so on. The weight training and amount of muscle he put on may help with preserving his body. However, how long can he swing like that ? Is it something he can do for his entire career? Will he need to adjust in his 30's ? Only time will tell, until then we will all tune in to watch him drop absolute nukes.
